What you'll learn

Globally, there is growing consideration of the impact of criminal justice systems on neurodivergent individuals.

This pre-recorded online webinar explores the role of defence lawyers for suspects and defendants living with autism. It considers practical ways in which representation can be more effective for this potentially vulnerable group. Based on literature and research across various jurisdictions, the webinar reviews what is currently known about the experience of people living with autism in criminal justice systems.. The webinar then focuses on the role of the defence lawyer, drawing on a live research project involving defence lawyers practising in England and Wales.

Once enrolled, you will be provided a link to the recording and can watch on demand from Thursday, 26 June 2025.

Presenter: Dr Roxanna Dehaghani & Dr Tom Smith
